Blog 3: Ambito laboral

Below, I am going to write about three short stories; “Thucydides”, “Dingo”, and “The German Boy”. These tales have common things and at the same time, they have different things. If you want to know what these things are, you should read this essay. I invite you.

Firstly, I tell you about “Thucydides”. This story was writing by Rachel Gould. She counts that she wanted to be a writer, for that reason, she starts writing about Thucydides who was the historian of the Greek. She wrote that she began to be missing to class in the school. That event creates her a trouble because the professors told her parents about it.  One day she listened to her father talking with another woman. No with her mom, so she realized that her father was deceiving to her mother.  For as long as. She began to change her attitude; and her parents never knew the real reason.

Secondly, “Dingo” was written by F. Bennett. Dingo was a wild dog of Australia Dingo came to the protagonist's life to give him happiness and
company when he was sad and lonely. They spent a lot of things together, until one day the chief ordered him to throw out the poor dog, and for that reason they had to be separated, but they always remembered each other.

Finally, ”The German boy” was written by Ron Butlin. This story starts when the protagonist look at throughout the window of his office and he saw a woman, who reminded him to his antique classmates and friend he begins to tell about Klaus, the German boy. And at the end he counts that he does not know how he will tell his wife about his business.

To compare, I'll start with the similarities of the three stories. The first one may find is that the three stories are very sad. In the Thucydides story, when the girl knew about that her father was deceiving her mother, that completely destroyed her, that gave rise to not continue in school and therefore, she could not finish counting about Thucydides. The sadness, in the history of Dingo, is reflected when the boss of the writer sent him to kill his beloved dog. In the history of German boy there are several parts of sadness; one of them is when the German boy, Klaus, had to leave his country bound, learning a new language and studying in a new school, where he did not know anyone. Another sad scene is when the author said that Klaus cried every night. Finally, the writer mentions that he was in bankruptcy.

Another similarity is that the three tales describe and explain what their main character in his story is. In the first story, the writer explains and details who was Thucydides, and he wrote he wrote why he was interested in this Greek personage. In the second tale, the writer describes in detail, how Dingo was physically. And in the last story the author describes to Klaus physically and psychologically.

Third, for me the three stories were hard to understand when I read, either by their vocabulary or when the writers wrote something and then said another thing, so they had no chronology in which they were writing.

Finally, another resemblance in the stories above mentioned  is that the story of Rachel to equal that of Ron Butlin, in the end, she said do not know how to tell your loved ones the truth. Thucydides in the History of the girl did not tell their parents knew that she had changed her attitude, so they never knew the reason for her sadness. And at the same time, in the German boy´s story the protagonist did not know how to tell his wife that he was bankrupt, as his father. However, here is where the differences begin because in Dingo's story, F Bennett said nothing about something that he had not said.

Another difference found in the stories is that in the Thucydides´ story and in the story of Dingo, the authors need to explain the vocabulary that they are using, For example, the word “hoplite: a Greek infantryman”, in the first tale; and the word “clearskins: cattle not yet branded with the brand of the station”, in the second story. Still, in the story of the German boy is not necessary for the author to explain vocabulary because it is easier to understand than the others, except when Klaus said in German, "Zweite Minuten", the writer does not explain anywhere what that means.

Another difference visible in the texts is about where from the authors were, also very similar to this difference is where the authors of these three stories worked. In the First story written by Rachel Gould said that “she was a young journalist”, who lived in Swansea, and “she had worked for Vogue and had contributed to The Times and The Guardian”, and actually, “she was making a name for herself as a writer of short stories.”  In the second story written by F. Bennett said that “he was a English and lived in Hastings, but he had spent many years working with sheep and cattle on Australian ranches.” In the third story written by Ron Butlin, “who lived and worked in Edinburgh and he had published two volumes of poetry as well as a collection of short stories”.

In addition, I want that you know what was my favorite story and why. My favorite story is The German Boy, not because i enjoy the sadness of the child, but when I read the piece where he said that he was broke and did not know how to tell his wife, that made ​​me reflect on my life, exactly in my marriage, and immediately I compare it with the story. As wife I would not like that something like this happen to me, I would not like to hide me, something so important , really  I would not like that my husband I hide me anything, because basically marriage is trust. My husband and I have good communication and he knows that if something bad happened him, he can count on me for everything, because it promised to God, in good times and bad times together. I think he should tell his wife to find a solution together.
